April 10, 2006

  1. The Regular Meeting of the Saline Township Board was called to order by Supervisor James Marion on April 10, 2006 at 8:05pm at the Saline Town Hall, 5731 Braun Road, Saline, MI 48176.

  2. Members present: Supervisor Marion, Clerk Baldus, Treasurer Gordon, Trustees Bohnett and R. Marion. Thirty one other citizens were present.

  3. The Pledge of Allegiance was not performed.

  4. Mr. R. Marion moved, supported by Mr. Bohnett, that the agenda be approved with the following changes: addition of 5e. Appoint Election inspectors of Judy Lindemann, Marlene Jedele, Norine Love, Wendy Dwyer, Gail Smoot, Marily Gordon and Shirley Rothfuss; replace item 6 with Washtenaw County 800 Watt Presentation, and include item 13a. Dan Cabage, Township engineering firm. Ayes: 5. Nays: 0. Motion carried.

  5. Mrs. Gordon moved, supported by Mr. R. Marion, that the consent agenda be approved as follows:
    1. Approve minutes from March 13th regular meeting and March 23rd settlement day meeting.
    2. Receive Clerk's budget, Financial Report.
    3. Decline The River Raisin Watershed Council Membership Dues.
    4. Approve Accounts Payable in the amount of $4,210.61.
    5. Appoint the following Election Inspectors:
      1. Judy Lindemann
      2. Norine Love
      3. Marlene Jedele
      4. Wendy Dwyer
      5. Gail Smoot
      6. Marilyn Gordon
      7. Shirley Rothfuss

  6. Washtenaw County 800 Mega Watt Committee made a brief presentation regarding the upcoming ballot proposition. Fire Chief Craig Hoeft, Police Chief Jack Ceo, and one Huron Valley Ambulance representative were present. Ballot proposition will be 2/10th of a mill each year for 10 years, taxed on the taxable value of property.

  7. Citizens were offered a chance to address the Board regarding items not already on the agenda. Robert Prehn wanted to recognize Mr. Russ Brown who was present this evening and who was stationed in Iraq. Laurie Leinbach wanted to know if the Saline Township ballot proposition could have been per household versus per property owner.

  8. Supervisor Jim Marion commented on the following:
    1. Residents can request, at nominal fee, extra brine application in front of their home. Call the Washtenaw County Road Commission.
    2. April 22nd Oakhill cemetery cleanup scheduled, all are welcome to attend.

  9. Saline Area Greenway Alliance representative, Taylor Jacobsen, made a brief presentation regarding their commitment to the Saline River preservation.

  10. Resolution 2006-005, revised wording on ballot proposition was offered by Mrs. Gordon, supported by Mr. R. Marion. Roll call was taken. Ayes: 5. Nays: 0. Resolution adopted.

  11. Resolution 2006-006, State to support local governments was offered by Mrs. Baldus, supported by Mr. R. Marion. Roll call was taken. Ayes: 5. Nays: 0. Resolution adopted.

  12. No Trustees report.

  13. Zoning/Building Administrator reported a problem with an Oak Park Drive new home construction being built on property lines, issue is not resolved yet. Dan Cabage, Township Engineer was present to briefly introduce himself and his new company that will be assisting the Township for future projects.

  14. Nothing new from the Fireboard.

  15. Township Hall Manager submitted his bill and wanted to address the handicap ramp entrance that needs repair. The Board gave permission to have the ramp repaired.

  16. Board Member Mrs. Baldus commented concerns regarding residents that have mailboxes across the street of the new US-12 road extension. Mr. Bob Prehn commented on the 800 Watt ballot proposition. Mrs. Gordon commented that the Township is settled with the County.
