May 8, 2006
- The Regular
Meeting of the Saline Township Board was called to order by Supervisor
James Marion on May 8, 2006 at 7:35pm at the Saline Town Hall,
5731 Braun Road, Saline, MI 48176.
- Members
present: Supervisor Marion, Clerk Baldus, Treasurer Gordon, Trustees
Bohnett and R. Marion. Twenty one other citizens were present.
- Mr. Bohnett
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Mr. Bohnett
moved, supported by Mr. R. Marion, that the agenda be approved
with the following changes: 5c. Delete purchase of 1 new flag;
5d. Increase Accounts payable to a total of $12,237.01 reflecting
2 spring clean up bills; addition of 5f. Approve Election Inspectors
pay of $690. Ayes: 5. Nays: 0. Motion carried.
- Mrs. Baldus
moved, supported by Mrs. Gordon, that the consent agenda be approved
as follows:
- Approve
minutes from April 10th regular meeting.
- Receive
Clerk's budget, Financial Report.
- Approve
purchase of 1 new handicap ramp sign.
- Approve
Accounts Payable in the amount of $12,237.01.
- Approve
Election Inspectors pay of $690.
- Michigan
State Police did not show. Mr. J. Marion will contact the Post
to see if they can arrange to come quarterly; therefore, the remaining
dates to schedule would be June 12th, September 11th
and December 11th.
- Citizens
were offered a chance to address the Board regarding items not
already on the agenda. Carrie DeJonghe briefly spoke to inform
citizens the day of spring clean up. The responses from the majority
of citizens were opposed to the Biltmore Development. Mr. Tom
Green spoke briefly about an article in the Saline Reporter, written
by Brian Cox, informing the residents of who contributed money
to the non profit organization that published signs against Saline
Township ballot proposition.
- Supervisor
Jim Marion commented on the following:
- Residents
may request to have their mailbox moved. US 12 residents are
encouraged to contact Sheryl Brown, Saline Postmaster, at
429-9194 or Delivery Supervisor, Vinita Williams. This process
may be difficult, but the residents' safety is more important.
Will pass along to the Planning Commission.
- Washtenaw
County Road Commission needs to be contacted for brine application.
Road projects need to be decided by June 16th before the Township
losses the matching funds. Mohart road is a potential project.
- Thank
you to all citizens that helped spring cleaned the two cemeteries.
- Need
to contact Mary Gumtow regarding recycle bin signs and new
bin.
- Carl Girbach will be attending a Planning Seminar this
month.
- Saline Area
Greenway Alliance representative, Laurie Leinbach, made a brief
presentation regarding their commitment to the Saline River preservation.
- Resolution
2006-007, August ballot proposition was read by Mrs. Baldus; after
further discussion, motion by Mr. R. Marion, supported by Mrs.
Gordon to hold special meeting with attorney for clarification
on the specific wording used in the ballot proposition. Ayes:
5. Nays: 0. Motion carried.
- Mrs. Baldus
informed citizens the Board needs to add to areas to the Cemetery
Ordinance. One being cremation preferences and second a perpetual
care trust fund language. Further discussion will take place next
month.
- Mrs. Baldus
informed citizens that the Private Road Ordinance needs to be
reviewed and updated. Discussion of hiring a new Planner for new
Township work was discussed. Mrs. Baldus will contact Carlisle
Wortman Associates to see if they are taking new clients. Further
discussion will take place next month.
- No Trustees
report.
- Zoning/Building
Administrator reported that the problem still exits at Oak Park
Drive. Letters to residents regarding non licensed vehicles have
been sent out. Still waiting to hear from Donald Pennington regarding
new ordinance on dumping.
- Nothing
new from the Fireboard.
- Township
Hall Manager reported minor repairs regarding the Hall.
- Board Member
Mr. Marion asked Dan Cabage to report briefly on the Lewis Condo
project. All is going well according to the consent judgement.
Mrs. Gordon reported that WCC was charged twice to Clinton residents.
Money has been reimbursed to residents. Mrs. Gordon also reported
that she was informed by residents that solicit mailers were being
attached to mailboxes; this is illegal and please mail information
according to the laws. Mr. J. Marion and Mrs. Gordon have depositions
coming up this week. Mr. Mark Reading submitted a donation to
the Township in the amount of $435.

adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
